A lot of people get confused on this, so I'll set this out in very simple terms. In order to become an active character on this forum, you must:
1. Register.
2. Be approved.
3. Post a character bio in the "Character Profiles" section under the appropriate category. At this time, if you wish to be a special chara [Animagus, etc], apply there as well. If you wish to be a teacher, please apply there as well. The Admins will review your profile and applications, and in the meantime, you may post OOC in the "get to know you" section, and you can meet and greet with the mods. DO NOT POST IN THE SORTING HAT UNTIL YOU HAVE BEEN APPROVED.
4. Once your character has been approved, you may take the sorting hat quiz and post the result link, along with a text post describing your experience under the Hat in the "Sorting Hat" board. Be sure to include your thoughts, feelings, emotions, anything and everything you can think of. Characters who got close scores on their quiz may be subject to "roleplay" with the Hat itself in the forum, discussing the attributes of the chara and giving it's first impression, as well as, at the end, assigning the character a House. After you have been sorted, you will be placed in the appropriate group and given the access code to your common room. At this time, if you choose to be Head of House [staff only] you may apply to do this. Heads of Houses will be chosen towards the end of every July OOC.
5. After you have been sorted, if you are a teacher, it is at this time we will ask you to "set up" your classroom. View the examples provided in the staff room for a general feel of assignments, rules, and set up.
6. If you are a student, we will now ask you to post in your common room, introducing yourself to other students and packing away your things.
7. After classrooms are set up and students are sorted, we will have the Feast in the Great Hall. Roleplay will resume as normal.
